George M. Alcorn

George M. Alcorn died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Monroe Township. He was 91. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he had lived in Florida and Lavallette before moving to Rossmoor Village in Monroe Township eight years ago. He received his bachelor of science degree from Rutgers University and worked as a senior vice president for National Bank of New Jersey which became Fidelity Union and Fidelity Bank in New Brunswick for over 40 years before retiring in 1982. He had also maintained offices in Piscataway and Newark. Mr. Alcorn had served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II
. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in East Windsor and the Hightstown Lodge #41 F & AM in Hightstown. He was past president of the Metuchen Chamber of Commerce and had performed volunteer work for many charitable organizations. He enjoyed fishing, darts, reading, poetry, stained glass, Civil War history and crossword puzzles.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Jane (Witte) Alcorn; four daughters, Linda Jane Bloom, Janice Anne Alcorn and Beverly Sabatino and her husband Noel, all of Monroe Township and Melissa Nicola and her husband John of East Windsor; two sons, Robert George Alcorn and his wife Kathryn of Monroe Township and Kenneth Witte Alcorn and his wife Dr. Elizabeth A. Atkinson of Dawsonville, Georgia; seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
