"Harry" Hendrick Van Gorick died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013. He was born June 22, 1938 in Akron, Ohio to Robert and Johanna (Vanderzee) Gorick. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. In 1972, as a member of the US Navy Antarctic Development Squadron Six (VXE-6), Gorick jumped at an altitude of 20,500 feet from a UH-1N helicopter. In doing so he set a record for parachute jumping over the Antarctic continent. He retired from the Navy, having achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

A long-time resident of Beachwood, he is survived by four children and by twelve grandchildren.
