James E. Chappell Sr.


James E. Chappell Sr., of Piscataway, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 in Somerset. He was born in Milo, Maine and lived in Piscataway for 46 years. Before moving to Piscataway, James lived in Rhode Island. James was in the military for 22 years. He was a retired Navy veteran and served during World War II, the Korean War and also during the Bay of Pigs. James worked as a manager and consultant for Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick. He also worked as a manager for Rowe International in Parsippany until his retirement in the 1980's. James was a volunteer, member and parishioner of St. John's Church in Dunellen. He was a life member of the Dunellen Elks, past Exalted Ruler and State Vice President. James also did a lot of charity work for the Elks. He was also a member of the Watchung Elks and the American Legion of Piscataway.

James is survived by his wife, Joan Oberwanowicz of Piscataway; 2 sons, William and James E. Jr., both of Piscataway; 4 grandchildren, Kristen, Chloe, James and Madison; and 1 great-granddaughter, Natalie.

Viewing hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at St. John's Church in Dunellen, followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
