James E. Simmons died peacefully Monday, March 17, 2014, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick while surrounded by his family. He was 90.

Born in Toledo, Ohio he had lived in Clifton before moving to North Brunswick in 2005. He was a machinist at Paterson Machine Company for 30 years before retiring in 1989. Mr. Simmons had served in the United States Navy aboard the USS New Jersey during World War II.

He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy McLaughlin Simmons and by a son Gregory Simmons. Surviving are his son James F. Simmons and his wife Susan of North Brunswick; three grandchildren - Stacey Conti and her husband Mark, James W. Simmons and Sara Simmons; and two great grandchildren Sophia Conti and Jersey Rose Simmons.

Friends and relatives may call at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick on Friday from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM with a funeral service to be held at 8 PM. Private cremation will follow.
