Jeanette Marie Van Zandt
Jeanette Marie (nee Bournique) Van Zandt recently of Lakewood NJ, passed away at her residence in Harrogate, a senior community on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Dwight B. Van Zandt and loving mother to Russell and wife Judith of Trinity FL, Jeffery and wife Ellen of Englewood, NJ, James and wife Fran of Longboat Key, FL, Roberta Loflin and husband Wadell of Baton Rouge, LA, Joan Savaglio and husband Robert of Jerrico, VT, Jon and wife Georgina of Deerfield, MA and Juliette Weatherby and husband Michael of North Adams, MA. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 6 nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Van Zandt was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 5, 1918. The oldest of three daughters of Marcel and Agnes (nee Murray) Bournique. She grew up in Closter, New Jersey, attended New Rochelle College at the age of 16 and then worked for New York Life in New York City. She met Dwight B. Van Zandt in her home town of Closter. They were married on April 22nd, 1940 and raised their seven children in Closter, Demarest and River Vale, New Jersey, where their warm and loving home was a magnet for family and friends and where many large family celebrations were held with children and grandchildren.
Jeanette is pre-deceased by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Reader and Anne Haws; daughter-in-law, Stella B. Van Zandt and granddaughter, Carrie R. Van Zandt. Jeanette Van Zandt was an outstanding mother, homemaker, hostess, entertainer and family matriarch. She was always available to support her children and grandchildren as they developed in the arts, sports, education and life. Mrs. Van Zandt will be missed by all her friends and family that loved her. She was a devout Catholic, always optimistic, an avid reader and devoted Yankee fan, a knowledgeable and highly intelligent woman she was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Visitation for Jeanette will be at the Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Dr., Tenafly on Thursday, April 25th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. There will be a funeral mass celebrated by a dear family friend Fr. Joseph O'Brien at St. Therese Catholic Church in Cresskill, N. J. at 9:30 AM on Friday, April 26th.
