John Bender

John Bender, passed away Saturday June 23, 2012. Mr. Bender was the Salutatorian of his graduating class at Perth Amboy High School in NJ. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Rutgers College of Arts and Sciences in New Brunswick, NJ. He was the fourth recipient of a Rutgers PhD. in mathematics, Mr. Bender had a long and distinguished career as a mathematics professor at Rutgers University, including serving as Chair of the Mathematics Department at the Newark campus. Mr. Bender was a member of the American Mathematics Society and Sigma Xi. Mr. Bender's service in the U.S. Navy during WWII included participation in the Battle of Normandy and the Pacific Theatre.

Mr. Bender is predeceased by his sister Katie and his brothers, Andrew, Michael, and George. He is survived by his devoted wife Clara. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Ann, his sister-in-law Aldona and brother-in-law Charles and several nieces and nephews and their families.
