AGE: 84 • Bridgewater

John F. Mahler, 84, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at his home in Bridgewater. Son of the late John Jacob and Elizabeth Mahler, John was born at home in Hillside, NJ and lived in Middlesex before moving to Bridgewater 36 years ago. John was a US Army Korean War Veteran. He worked for Lincoln Financial as an insurance agent for more than 25 years. John was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Bernard's Church in Bridgewater; member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1432 in Somerville; member of the American Legion Post 209 in Scotch Plains; and was a mentor with Big Brother's of NJ. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and always remembered for his love of golf, sense of humor and unfailing generosity.

He is predeceased by his brother, Robert Mahler. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 58 years, Peggy Jean Lauler; sister, Betty Wenrich of Monroe Twp; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 2-5 PM at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said 8:30 AM on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the funeral home followed by a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard's Church in Bridgewater. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery.
