AGE: 71 • Sayreville

John Garbowski, age 71, of Sayreville passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at Saint Peters University Medical Center, New Brunswick with his loving family at his side. Born in Sayreville he was a life long borough resident. John honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Before his retirement in 2007, he was employed by the Borough of Sayreville Police Department for 39 years, retiring as Chief, a position he held from 1997 to 2007 and was a member of Sayreville P.B. A. Local 98, Middlesex County and State Chiefs of Police Association. John was a life member of Sayreville First Aid Squad, was a hockey coach for the Woodbridge and was a recreational pilot. He was a life long communicant of Saint Stanislaus Kostka R. C. Church in Sayreville where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and church choir, a 2 time past president of Saint Stanislaus School H.S.A., a member of the of the Diocese of Metuchen Festival Choir.

He is predeceased by his parents, Peter & Eleanor Garbowski and his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and William Blanken. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Margaret "Peggy" Samuel Garbowski; his daughters and their husbands, Rebecca & Troy Jankowski of Sayreville and Beth Ann & Steven Riccardone of Robbinsville; his sons, Peter and Daniel Garbowski both of Sayreville; his grandchildren, Noah Heil and Jonathan Riccardone; his siblings and their spouses, Bernard Garbowski of Absecon, Florence & Walter Dziekan of Sayreville and Robert & MaryLee Garbowski of Texas; his companion, friends and loving dogs, Baxter & Juanita and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday 9:15am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin, followed by a 10am con-celebrated mass at Saint Stanislaus Kostka R. C. Church in Sayreville with burial to follow at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Sayreville. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Thursday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. The family has requested that donations in John's name be made to Saint Stanislaus Kostka School Endowment Fund, 225 MacArthur Avenue, Sayreville N.J. 08872.
