Josephine Altman, 94, of Metuchen, died on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at home. She was born in Perth Amboy and lived there for 79 years before moving to Metuchen. She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School class of 1936. She was retired from Chevron Corporation and as an Executive Secretary. She also worked at the YMHA in Perth Amboy during the war years and was in charge of the USO dances for the soldiers, sailors and marines. Josephine was a parishioner of Blessed John Paul II Parish of St. Mary RC Church in Perth Amboy and a member of the Rosary Alter Society. She was officer of the Desk and Derrick Club at Chevron and also belonged to the Market Street Seniors in Perth Amboy.
She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Bertha Altman; her brothers, Bernard and Jack, who were lost in World War II, and Gilbert and her sister, Violet. She is survived by her sister, Joyce and brother-in-law Charles; her sister-in-law, Lavern Altman, and brother-in-law, Joseph Basilici. She is also survived by her four nephews and their wives, Jack and Laraine Altman, Rob and Susy Basilici, Joe and Loretta Basilici and Chuck and Betsy Leggett and grandnieces and nephews, Rose, Alicia, Charli Jo, Anthony, Sam and Danny. During her lifetime, Josephine cared for her mother, traveled, loved New York City, the plays, movies and restaurants. She frequently looked after her nephews and was everyone's favorite aunt. A kind and sweet person who was much loved and will be missed by all of her family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 9:15 AM from Flynn and Son / Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, followed by a 10 AM Funeral Liturgy at Blessed John Paul II Parish of St. Mary RC Church, Perth Amboy. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
