Josephine Buttros, age 85, of Berkeley Twp., died Tuesday, July 29th at home. Born Josephine Roman December 12, 1928 in Glitzen, PA and raised by her grandmother and aunt before moving to Newark in 1943. She worked in various factories in support of the war effort during World War II. She married the late Peter Buttros on February 5, 1949 and lived in Newark where she raised her 2 children before moving to Piscataway in 1968. Josephine worked for the Piscataway School System until her retirement in 1986. Josephine and her husband moved to Toms River to enjoy their retirement in Silver Ridge Park.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband Peter Buttros, her brother Thomas Roman, her sister Antonia Vacula and her grandson Michael Christopher La Rocca. Surviving are her children Christine Buttros La Rocco and her husband Pasquale of Bayville, NJ and Ronald Buttros and his wife Maria of Piscataway, NJ, grandchildren Theresa La Rocca Price of Lynchburg, MO, Toni Bloom and her husband Brian of Edison, NJ, Tracie La Rocca Ciancio and her husband Anthony of Piscataway, NJ, Ronald Buttros and his fiancée Antonella of Manville, NJ, and Peter La Rocca and his wife Christina of Bayville, NJ, 13 great grandchildren Kelsey, Alyssa, Domenica, Alex, Anthony, Phoenix, Gina, Julius, Giovanni, Trinity, Ava, Isabelle and Christopher, also surviving are her nieces Kathy, Joann, Sharmaine and Corrine of Pennsylvania.
Visiting will be Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 9:30 AM Saturday at St. Maximilian Kolbe R. C. Church, Berkeley Twp. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
