On the 26th day of January 2013, the candle of life which had always glowed brightly, flickered and went dark with the passing of Kathryn Fuhrer Lieberman. Kathryn, age 79, suffered a life ending fall while on vacation in Puerto Rico, in spite of valiant efforts on the part of all the doctors and medical personnel to save her. Kathryn was born in Scranton, PA. After graduating from Penn State University she moved to Hawaii where she taught school for two years. Upon returning to the main land she began teaching in the Bridgewater-Raritan School District for the next 25 years primarily in kindergarten. During her teaching career she received a Master's degree from Trenton State College. In 1963, and after meeting and marrying her husband, Marvin, she moved to Hillsborough where she lived the balance of her life. Upon retiring from the teaching career she loved, she often complained that there were not enough hours in the day to do all she wanted to do. She joined the Bridgewater Garden Club, arranging many of their social functions. She also became a member of the Red Hat Organization, the Beach Haven Yacht Club and the NJREA (retired teachers). She was a member of the Stanton Ridge Country Club taking up golf at an age when most would consider putting their clubs away, hoping to clear the pond on the third hole (one of the goals she didn't quite reach). She was a member of the Hillsborough Democratic Club being honored for her work and was the recipient of the 2012 Eleanor Roosevelt award, of which she was extremely proud. Kathryn had many charities being generous to a fault. The charity closest to her heart was the ASPCA as she loved all creatures small and large.

Her life, as with all lives, had its tragedy with the greatest being the unexpected death of her son Billy in 2006 at the age of 46. But for the most part it was filled with excitement and happy memories - The very close relationship with her beloved daughter Kathy and her family, husband Jamie Gacos and their children Alex and Katie, Billy's daughters Shelby and Rebecca and their mother Sharon Kuhns. She is survived by her husband, Marvin and her brother, Theodore Fuhrer and his wife Linda; sister-in-law and traveling companion, Sharon Gavin as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and innumerable friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 1st at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville, NJ from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. On Saturday, February 2nd, a 10am Memorial Service will be held at the Somerset Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Mt Airy Road, Basking Ridge, in celebration of Kathryn's life well spent. Repast will follow at the Elks Club BPOE Lodge 1068, Union Avenue, Bridgewater, NJ to which everyone is invited. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations may be made in Kathryn's memory to the Hepatitis Foundation International, 504 Blick Drive, Silver Springs, MD 20904.
