Major Hilda Clark

AGE: 87 • Asbury Park

Major Hilda Clark, 87, of Asbury Park, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013, after a long illness. She was born in Cobourg, Ontario, and moved to the U.S. when she was 20. She became a Salvation Army officer in 1959, and married Gordon Clark two years later. Together, they ministered at Salvation Army corps in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts until retirement in 1994. Throughout her life, she was known for her faithful service to others, often making lasting impressions on the lives of those she touched. Many have told stories of how she would discretely help individuals in need, treating them with their God-given dignity. Her greatest joy in retirement was spending time with her grandchildren, and she regularly helped at the Asbury Park Corps.

She is survived by her children, Timothy of Bangor, Me., Thomas of West Yarmouth, Mass., and Susan Kelly of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, David Cowin of Cobourg, Ontario.

Friends are invited to the viewing on Thursday, April 25, at 10:00am, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00am, both at The Salvation Army in Asbury Park. Interment will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Asbury Park Salvation Army, 605 Asbury Ave. Asbury Park NJ 07712.
