Manuel V. Silva, age 82, of South River, passed away Wednesday, March 12th 2014 at Saint Peters Medical Center, New Brunswick with his loving family at his side. Born in Gafanha da Vagueira, Portugal he has resided in South River since 1980. Before his retirement in 1993 he worked with his son Manny, at Hercules Construction in South River, where he worked for 30 years. Mr. Silva was a communicant of Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River.
He is predeceased by his wife Maria de Jesus Silva in 2008 and his son Manny Silva in 2009. Surviving are his daughter Vera Silva and her companion John Brodzicki, his grandchildren Marcia Silva and her husband David Stahl, Mark Silva, Joseph Adelino and Blake Adelino, his great grandchildren Maya and John Maltez, his siblings Maria da Luz, Gracinda Amaral and Antonio Silva, his "adopted grandchildren" Sophia, Gil and Rick Parracho his devoted care giver Celeste Mota and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 8:15am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River followed by a 9am mass at Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River with burial to follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Friday from 5pm to 8pm.
