Martin L. Burns of Elk Grove, California and formerly of Woodbridge passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey; he resided in Woodbridge for over fifty-six years before moving to California six years ago. Mr. Burns graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1938. He was a Veteran that served in World War II. In 1940, he joined the United States Army, and earned the rank of Sergeant before he was Honorably Discharged. Mr. Burns was also a member of the American Legion Post 45 for 55 years. He was employed as a Salesman for Ballantine Ale and Ritter Foods in the Middlesex County area for 34 years and retired in 1983. Mr. Burns was a communicant of St. James R.C. Church in Woodbridge and a member of The Knights of Columbus Council 299.

He was predeceased by his wife, Claire Ernst Burns who passed away in 1994; his mother, Mary E. O'Brien Burns who passed away in 1970; his father, Leo Burns who passed away in 1988 and a nephew, Frank McGuire Jr. who passed away in 2005. He is survived by his sister, Bernice McGuire, his brother-in-law, Frank McGuire Sr., a nephew, Patrick McGuire, grandniece, Cassidy McGuire and grandnephew, Robert McGuire, all reside in Elk Grove, California. Grandniece Maura McGuire resides in Sacramento, California.

Funeral will take place 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 form the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue in Woodbridge. A 10:30 a.m. funeral Liturgy will take place at St. James R.C. Church in Woodbridge. Interment will be in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be Monday, January 14, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Martin Burns' name to the .
