Mary Yatczyn (nee Pohira) passed from this life on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Spring Hills Assisted Living in Morristown, NJ where she was residing for the past four years. She was born August 4, 1918 in Perth Amboy, NJ to parents Michael and Paulina (Karmazin) Pohira. She was a resident of South Plainfield for most of her life. In 1940 she married Joseph Yatczyn Sr. who preceded her in death in February of 1961. Mary worked for White-Westinghouse in Piscataway as an assembler for many years before her retirement in 1983. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield and a devoted participant in the weekly novena.
Mary is predeceased by her brothers Michael Jr. and Charles Pohira and sisters Ann Zampella, Helen Esolda Harabin and Pauline Zahuta. She is survived by son Joseph Jr. and his wife Patricia of Succasunna, NJ; grandson Jeffrey of Wayne, PA; and granddaughter Leslie Orzack and her husband Robert, great-grandchildren Liam and Reese Orzack of Succasunna, NJ; brother John Pohira of Winter Park, FL, and sister Margaret Lewkow of Littleton, CO; and sisters-in-law Helen Pohira of North Plainfield, NJ, Helen Stockli Stoll of Teaneck, NJ and brother-in-law Charles Yatczyn of Orando, FL plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 26th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:30am at the Church of the Sacred Heart in South Plainfield. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
