Mervin R. Baxter
AGE: 63 • Martinsville
Mervin R. Baxter, 63, died Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Overlook Hospital, Summit. Born March 22, 1949, in Middlesex, he was the son of Mervin W. and Bertha Stocker Baxter. He was a lifelong Martinsville resident. A 1967 graduate of Ridge High School, Merv received a BS in Entomology from the University of Georgia
in 1972. In 1999, Merv married Maureen O'Connor of Elizabeth, his longtime sweetheart of 11 years, in the Virgin Atlantic Lounge at Newark Airport. Their honeymoon train trip through Europe was just one of several trips to exotic destinations they enjoyed together over the years. A self starter and hard worker, Merv founded MRB Pest Control, which he owned and continued as its president for over 30 years until his semi-retirement in 2008. Merv had many interests in addition to travel, including music and custom made boots. However, nothing compared to his exceptionally beautiful gardens that featured as its centerpiece a large pond that he hand dug and personally selected every single rock for its walls —it was always an ongoing art project. Merv was a man of integrity and honor. In 1987 he received a certificate of honor award from the City of Somerville for saving the life of a man who suffered an epileptic seizure and fell into the deep end of the local YMCA pool.
Merv is survived by his wife, Maureen; his " Favorite" mother in law, Ann O'Connor; sisters in law and their husbands, Lou and Brigid Bani, Chris and Annie Burd; brother in law, Michael and his dear friend Diane; nieces, Cara, Brianna, and Caity; nephews, Andrew, Michael and Connor and Uncle Dan. He is also survived by his dear lifelong friends, Bruce Major, Bob and Fran Barbeiri, Josie and Jim McCue, Meredith and John Holly, Barbara Epprecht and Rich Mager, Nancy and Bud Clifton, and so many other dear friends that were an important part of his life.
The Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, November 15, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook. Interment will be at Bound Brook Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home 5:00-9:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 14th.
