AGE: 10 • Oakhurst

"Budded here on earth to bloom in heaven" Mya Lin Terry, 10, of Oakhurst, passed away after a 5 ½ year battle with cancer at in Memphis, TN on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Mya was a 5th grade student at the Township of Ocean Intermediate School. Within her 10 years, Mya was able to impact hundreds, if not thousands of others, with her positive approach to living life and her strong and willful intent to always help others. Some of her legacy efforts include performing as a St. Jude Spokesperson at their Thanks and Giving Campaign Editor's Conference in New York, NY; St. Jude Spokesperson at TUMI General Managers Conference in Long Branch, NJ; Modeling for Back to School edition of the Money Saver Magazine; Featured Hero of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pennies for Patients Spokesperson; and Team Lead for Relay For Life.

Mya performed as a guest Chef at Nicholas in Middletown; Ragin Cajun in Belmar; Tommy's Coal Fire Grill in Oakhurst, and was a St. Jude Executive Chef Assistant at Thanks and Giving Campaign Editor's Conference in New York, NY.

Mya is a Published Author: "The Day I Got My NG Tube," by Mya Terry which is available on Amazon. Mya enjoyed being part of the Girl Scout Troup 100, Swimming, Playing Soccer, all things technical like her Iphone, Ipad and Movie Creating, Crafting, Cooking, Gardening and Riding Her Bike. Mya received the Kohl's Cares Awards: Store Winner and Regional Winner in 2012. Her Philanthropic activities include: Mya's Mommy Bags, Bone Marrow Swabbing Drives; annual Blood Donation Drives and and the Mya Sent Me - Pay It Forward/Random Act of Kindness Movement. Mya aspired to attend Culinary School and Open a Restaurant, to become an Oncology Nurse and a Veterinary Volunteer. She is our inspiration for the lyrics "Hall of Fame."

Our beloved Daughter, Friend and Warrior Princess, Mya, is survived by her parents, Kelly L. (Irvin) Terry of Oakhurst, and Michael R. Terry of Bradley Beach; her brother, Michael L. Terry of Oakhurst; her maternal grandparents, Bevin G. Irvin and Patricia A. (McAleer) Irvin of Oakhurst; her paternal grandparents, Edwin B. Terry III and Linda Terry of Palm Coast, FL; her aunt, Kasey L. (Irvin) Pickett; her uncle, Kenneth L. Pickett Jr.; her cousins, Alexis R. Pickett and Kenneth S. Pickett, all of Oakhurst; her uncle, Thomas J. Terry and cousin, Ian T. Terry of Springfield, MA; her uncle, Edwin B. Terry IV and cousins, Edwin B. Terry V and Blayke M. Terry of Middletown; her "step" family Gary Burger, Sydney Burger and Broc Burger of Oakhurst; her beloved dogs, Laila Ali and Lily Pad; countless friends; and her boyfriend, John Napolitani.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Francioni, Taylor and Lopez Funeral Home, 1200 10th Ave., Neptune. Relatives and friends may gather at 10 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Atonement Lutheran Church on First Avenue in Asbury for her memorial service. Cremation will be private. For those who desire, memorial contributions in memory of Mya may be made to in Memphis, TN; Make Some Noise: Cure Kids Cancer Foundation; The Frances Foundation, The Ashley Lauren Foundation and/or the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation.
