Myron Thomas Mendelson

Myron Thomas "Tom" Mendelson, 63, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 24, 2014. Born in Plainfield to the late Myron S. and Grace Mendelson, he resided there before moving to Middlesex in 1972. Tom graduated from Plainfield High School before attending Valley Forge, PA achieving an Associate's Degree. He had a distinguished military career of 28 years achieving the rank of First Sergeant. After his retirement, Tom was called back into service assisting at Ground Zero during the terroristic attacks on 9-11-01 and in addition, he held several different positions, settling with the federal government assigned to Rutgers Army ROTC as a human resources assistant guiding the new recruits, prior to his retirement in November of 2013.
Tom was involved in the NJ State Naval Militia, a member of the Association of the U.S. Army, the Boy Scouts of America, the Committee Chairman for Boy Scout Troop 148 and Cub Scouts Troop 149. He also was on the Board of Review for Eagle Scouts and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Tom was a very active communicant of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church where he served on the Parish and Financial Council, in addition, Tom was a member of the Children's Liturgy Ministry and gave many hours of volunteer services. He was one of the founding charter members of the Our Lady of Mount Virgin Knights of Columbus Council 12700 where he was Past-Grand Knight and current financial secretary. In addition, he was a Former District Deputy, Past President of Chapter 4 and a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree George Washington Assembly. Tom was also very active with Middlesex Borough as a member of the American Legion Post 306, served as Grand Marshal of the 2011 Middlesex Borough Memorial Day Parade and was the current Deputy Coordinator for the Middlesex Borough Office of Emergency Management. Overall, Tom was a knowledgeable, kind and considerate person always willing to help, guide and offer his expertise to all. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Diane Eganey Mendelson, his loving son, Lieutenant James Mendelson and wife Savannah of Manassas, VA, his cherished granddaughter, Samantha Kimberly Mendelson, and his brother, Samuel and wife Cindy of Wilfindorf, PA.
Funeral services will begin 8:45 am, Wednesday at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Bridgewater followed by a 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, 650 Harris Ave., Middlesex. Interment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Visitation hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
