Peter Manning, 89, died peacefully on April 22, 2013 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home in Holmdel, NJ. Peter was born August 22, 1923 in Newark where he spent his youth. He joined the Army
Air Force during WWII
and served with the 69th Bombardier Squadron in the South Pacific as an airplane mechanic. After the war he returned to his job at Westinghouse in Hillside, where he worked until his retirement.
He moved his growing family to Belford in 1956, where he was an active member of St. Mary's Parish in New Monmouth. In 1967 he purchased the Dairy Queen in Campbell's Junction with his brother-in-law and owned it through the 1970's. After his retirement he and his wife, Adele, who predeceased him in 2006, spent the winters in Lake Worth, FL where they enjoyed the warm weather, playing bridge, and golf with their many friends.
Peter is survived by his five children: daughters, Kathleen and husband Will Buchan of Stowe, Vermont, and Susan and her husband Phil Crowe of Middletown; sons, Peter and his wife Theresa of Shrewsbury, Jack of San Diego, and Bob and wife Amy of Highlands; 9 grandchildren, Alexandra Buchan, Stevie Crowe and husband Jeff Botti, Brendan Crowe, Patrick Crowe, Zachary Manning, Andrew Manning, Christian Manning, Austin Manning and Kate Manning.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Rd., Middletown. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 26 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., New Monmouth. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to
