Rita & Morton Brill

Highland Park

Rita Brill "Big Red", 83, passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ on December 31,2013. Her husband Morton Brill, 82, "Sporty Morty", passed away on January 18, 2014 at their home in Highland Park, NJ. He was never apart from his wife, Rita, for more than two weeks. This time he made it for 18 days.

Both Rita and Morty were born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. It was in school at the ages of 11 and 12 that they met. Rita was the milk monitor and the moment Morty saw her passing out milk and cookies he was smitten. They married at 18 and raised their family in Brooklyn, NY where they lived until retirement when they moved to Kings Point in Tamarac, FL. They moved to Highland Park NJ in May of 2013 to be closer to their children. Morty owned and operated an auto body painting and repair shop (V-M Auto Refinishing) in Jamaica, Queens, NY for over thirty years before he retired. Rita loved to write poetry. She would write a poem in every card or letter sent to her family members. Her poetry was also published in the local Kings Point, Tamarac newspaper. Morty enjoyed singing, telling jokes and playing his harmonica. They were both very active in the club house and pool in Tamarac, Fl.

Rita and Morty are survived by their children Gayle Brill Mittler and her husband Uri and Michael Brill and his wife Michelle, their grandchildren Haley Mittler, Stephen Mittler and his wife Krista, Daniel Brill and Amanda Brill and her husband Jason Cetel.

Services were held on January 2, 2014 for Rita and January 20, 2014 for Morty at the Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth, South Third Avenue and Benner Street, Highland Park. Arrangements were under the direction of the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick, NJ.

Mom and Dad taught me what love is all about. They loved each other so much, Dad just couldn't go on without her. And, while their world revolved around each other, they still had enough capacity for love to shower me and my brother with their warmth and endless sense of adventure.

I forgot to say this in my first entry, but reading their life story makes me feel like they should be in a movie. Such a lovely couple. Will tell my wife about them.
