Robert S. Carter
AGE: 75 • Perth Amboy
Robert S. Carter, 75, a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy, passed peacefully on Saturday December 15, 2012 at his home. He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School in 1955. In 1963 he joined the Perth Amboy Police Dept. as a police officer. For almost 33 years in the capacity as a police officer he became a detective heading up the Narcotics Bureau and Homicide division. He received the Blue Badge Valor Award in 1979 for saving the life of a woman who had been shot. He received the Perth Amboy Branch of the NAACP Award in 1998. He has received other commendations for his dedication and services to the community. He retired from the police department in July of 1996.
Robert was a designated tennis instructor for over 30 years, for the city's children and adults, for the Department of Recreation. He also worked for the Perth Amboy Board of Education as a security officer from 2000, until his recent retirement in October of this year.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Rosalie Carter, and a sister, Lois Carter.
He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Elaine Carter, two brothers, James Wolfe and Irving Carter, his 3 sons Carl Graham, David and Derek Carter and Derek's wife Marilyn, his 4 daughters, Stacey Busby, Kim and Robyn Carter and Denise Edwards., his grandchildren, Carl, Kellie, Alea, Harvey, Jasmin, John, Shanice, Eboynee, Dai Reese, King, Nasir, Derex, Nevaeh,, Shayleen, and William, his great grandchildren, Tianna, Javier, Lavon, Tyler, Logan, Destiny, Leilani, and Josiah, and a host of nieces nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave. Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. Funeral Services will be on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by interment in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
