Rocque D. Dameo

On April 11, 2014 Rocque D. Dameo, 78, passed away peacefully at his home with his family's love surrounding him.
Son of the late Rocco and Natalie Yannell Dameo, Rocque was born and raised in Short Hills and moved to Bridgewater in 1960. He was a 1957 graduate of Syracuse University earning a Business Transportation degree. Rocque was president of Dameo Trucking in Bridgewater and worked at the family business from 1957 until his passing. He was as devoted to serving the community as he was to his family and friends. He was a 30-year member and past President of the Somerset County Parks Commission, and was the current chairman of the Somerset County Parks Foundation. He was active in the Somerville Rotary Club
, having served as president, and formerly sat on the board of the Somerset Medical Center.
Rocque's unwavering commitment to law enforcement led him to be a founding member of the 200 Club of Somerset County and the Somerset County Crime Stoppers. He was equally devoted to advancing the cause of trucking, having served for decades in the New Jersey Motor Truck Association, Tank Truck Association of America and the American Trucking Association, for which he served as regional vice president.
Rocque was an ardent golfer who held memberships at both Raritan Valley and Plainfield Country Clubs. He was a passionate skier who continued to help others, becoming a Life Member of the National Ski Patrol, and shared his lifelong love of flying, sailing and boating with his family and friends. Rocque enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Pequest Anglers Club of Buttsville.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years Dorothy Muncies Dameo, sons Rocque and his wife Audra, Rand and his wife Oriana, Jason and his wife Kelley, Blake Anthony, sisters Kathleen Dameo and Virginia Dameo Kraeutler, brother Daniel and his wife Joan, nine grandchildren and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3-8pm Wednesday at the Bruce C. Van Arsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave. Somerville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Thursday at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1 E. Oak St., Basking Ridge. Private interment will be held at Mountain Top Cemetery, Bridgewater.
