Rose Faraci Matacera

Rose Matacera died on Wednesday, November 7th at her home five weeks prior to her 95th birthday. Rose was born in Perth Amboy and lived in Brooklyn before moving to New Brunswick in 1929. Rose was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church in New Brunswick and worked tirelessly as a Democratic Committee Woman in New Brunswick's 2nd ward, 3rd district for over 25 years. Rose was passionate about cooking and loved to cook for her large Italian family. As a young woman, Rose worked as a seamstress for Chaskey and Kovacs in New Brunswick. She then joined her husband and brothers in the family business, Faraci Bros. Coal and Fuel Oil Company. She also worked as a manager at W.T. Grant and retired from the Middlesex County Clerk's Office in 1986 to take on her favorite role as full-time grandmother.
She was predeceased by husband Peter G. Matacera in 1969 along with all of her 12 siblings; Santo, Charles, Joseph, Santo, Joseph, Paul John, Dominic and Gabriel Faraci and Frances LaCorte, Josephine Vallaro, Jennie Costagliola and Lena Amalfitano. She was also predeceased by her parents; Guissepe and Christina Faraci.
Rose is survived by her children; Honorable Paul J. Matacera and his wife Marylynn of North Brunswick and Maria Matacera Verra also of North Brunswick, her nephew Joseph C. Faraci and his wife Carol and her niece Christina Faraci Leary and her husband John.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Barbara Ann Matacera Barr and her husband David, Meghan Matacera Davey and her husband Matthew, Marylynn Matacera Calandruccio and her husband Frank, Peter Matacera Verra, and Michael Matacera Verra, her great grandchildren; Paul John Barr, David Fuller Barr, Margaret Rose Barr, Liam Joseph Barr, Elizabeth Rose Calandruccio, Ella Grace Calandruccio and Cecilia Bernadette Calandruccio. As well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. And, her faithful doggie companion Peanuts.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, November 12th at 9:45 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church, Remsen Avenue, New Brunswick. Subsequent internment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick. Friends and family may call on Sunday, November 11th from 4-8 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home.
