Steve J. Cserr, 91, of Hopelawn, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Mr. Cserr was born in Perth Amboy to the late Frank and Helen (Bodzany) Cserr and had lived in Hopelawn for the last sixty three years. He received a Bachelors Degree from Kean College and a Masters Degree of Education from Rutgers University. Mr. Cserr was a US Navy Veteran of World War II serving as a Motor Machinist's Mate 2c. He was the recipient of the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and also the Victory Medal. Steve was a Life Member and Past Commander, a position which he held for twenty-five years, of the Hopelawn VFW Post 1352. He was employed by the Sayreville Board of Education for twenty years and then by the Westwood Products Corp. in South River before retiring in 2007. Mr. Cserr was a member of the Good Shepherd Parish - Holy Spirit Church of Perth Amboy. He was also a member of the Keasbey Outboard Boating Club.

He was predeceased by his son, Kenneth Cserr and also by three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, of sixty four years, Mary (Fenick) Cserr; his son, Ronald Cserr and wife Linda of Kingwood, NJ; his two daughters, Helen Cserr of Woodbridge, NJ, AnneMarie Tibbett and husband Peter of Mechanicsville, VA; his brother, Robert Cserr MD of North Dighton, MA; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces.

Funeral services will be held Friday 10:00 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Interment will follow in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown. Visitation hours will be held Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The Hopelawn VFW Post 1352 will hold services Thursday 3 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
