Thomas Joseph Hart, Sr. of Holiday City South section of Berkeley Township, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Thomas was born in Hamilton, Scotland and came to the United States in 1929. He lived most of his life in Kearny, NJ later moving to Brick and in 1986 to Holiday City South.
He served in the U.S. Navy
during WW II. He worked for Western Electric in Kearny for many years, retiring in 1983. Thomas was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4969 St. Joseph Council in Toms River; a member of the American Legion, Toms River and the Holiday City Berkeley First Aid Squad; former Associate of the Manitou Park Fire Department where he directed traffic and served as the secretary of the fire dept. He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church and was a reader and Eucharistic minister at the church.
Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Alice Hart; his son, Thomas J. Hart, Jr. in 1984; and his sister, Josephine Weber. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Marilyn (nee Kleberg); his son, William Hart and his wife Barbara; three daughters, Marilyn Coyle and her husband William, Patricia Jouben and her husband Robbi and Kathleen Heitz and her husband Joseph; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 2 at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 3 at St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church, Berkeley Township. Burial to follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
