Thomas N. Wolford, Jr., 45, died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Tom was born November 28, 1967, in Perth Amboy, NJ., the son of Thomas and Barbara (McDonald) Wolford. Tom graduated from Edison High School, class of 1986. After graduation Tom was a member of the Edison Police Auxiliary unitl 1992 and resigned as a Sergeant. He also worked for Telcordia Technologies. On December 14, 2000, Tom was hired as an Edison Police Officer
. He attended the Somerset Police Academy and graduated in June 2001. Tom loved being a police officer and volunteered for any community service. He was an instructor with the Edison Police Explorers and volunteered at the Lakeview School Christmas parties. Tom assisted with Edison PBA #75 efforts at Ground Zero and for Hurricane Sandy. Tom lived his life to the fullest and touched so many lives. He was the most selfless man who put others needs before his own and was always there to help anyone at anytime. He had the best sense of humor and made everyone laugh. The Wolf Den was a favorite place for Tom and his family and friends to hang out. Tom was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved his yearly summer vacation at OB3 and Seaside. Tom enjoyed playing softball, golf, bowling, and riding his four-wheeler. He helped coach his nephew's ice hockey team. Tom was an avid sports fan. He has been a New York Rangers fan since childhood and was a season ticket holder for over a decade. He enjoyed going to see the Washington Redskins, New York Yankees and Rutgers football games. Tom loved Bruce Springsteen and went to concerts in many states. He cherished his custom designed Challenger.
Tom was predeceased by his father Thomas N. Wolford, Sr and his mother Barbara McDonald Wolford. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Tom is survived by his sister Tammy LaPlaga and her husband Michael of Edison, his nephew/Godson Ryan LaPlaga of Edison, his niece Meghan Murphy and her husband Patrick of Salem, NH, and his nephew Michael LaPlaga of Edison; his sister Lynn Brown and her husband David of Edison, his niece Cassandra Brown and his nephew Wesley Brown of Edison; his aunt and uncle Arleen and William Stephens of Edison; his cousins Kelly, Duane, Alex and Christopher Sommer, his godson, of Edison, Michael Stephens of Edison, and James, Carol and Heather Whalen of Edison; his Godmother Josie Hallett; his dog Bandit, an Alaskan Klee Kai and many, many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral at the Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Ave., Edison, N.J., on Friday, Feb. 15, at 9:30 a.m., then to Guardian Angels Church, 37 Plainfield Ave., Edison, N.J., where a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment is in Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen, NJ. Visitation will be held at Boylan Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
