William Ward "Billy" Shomo Jr.

William Ward "Billy" Shomo Jr., 65, of Atlantic City, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, at Atlantic Care Hospital, Atlantic City. William was born in Long Branch and soon after moved to Newark where he was educated in the Newark Public School System. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps
. Proudly serving his country, William did a tour in Vietnam, after which he was honorably discharged. He returned to New Jersey and resided in Atlantic City for the past 35 years.
He was predeceased by his father, William Ward Shomo Sr.; by his brother, Robert "Fennie" Shomo; and by his sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Adams. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Shomo; two sons, William "Little Billy" Shomo III, and Robert Shomo; a daughter, Malika Shomo; his grandchildren, Chase Paris Shomo, Rashamaad Bass, Jibri Pipkin and Bri Asia Shomo; his mother, Sadie Brown; his step father, Henry Brown; three brothers, James "Boboo" Shomo, Tommy West and Stevie West; threee aunts, Dorothy Alston, Thelma Taylor and Mabel Mendez; two uncles, George Shomo and Bob Alston, and a host of relatives and friends.
The viewing will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, with a funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas AME Zion Church, 87 Squankum Road, Tinton Falls. Interment will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. The Flock Funeral Home, Long Branch, is in charge of arrangements.
