Jeanne Marie (Hagan) Smith
Jeanne Marie (Hagan) Smith of Wall, N.J. a former resident of Tinton Falls and Appomattox, Va. passed away at her home on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Laurence and Katherine Hagan on December 13th, 1923. She grew up in Cedar Grove, N.J. and attended Bloomfield High School where she was an honor student winning the French and Latin prizes her senior year. Jeanne earned a BA degree from Upsala College in East Orange, N.J. in 1945 and later received a Masters degree from Monmouth College, West Long Branch, NJ. At the age of 5 Jeanne sat down at the piano and played melodies without written music. She was a prodigy and attended Julliard School of Music for two years pursuing a professional music career. She met her husband Richard Albert Smith at one of these events. They were married in New York City in 1950 and resided in Cedar Grove and Houston, TX. She was an elementary school teacher
at the Wildwood, Sayreville and Hazlet Public Schools teaching third and fifth grades. She also worked at New York University
for many years retiring at the age of 77. She and her family attended the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, NJ.
Jeanne and Richard had 4 children. Jeanne was predeceased by Richard and two sons, Dickie and Christopher James Smith. She is survived by her son, Stephen William Smith and wife Ginger, Appomattox, Va.; her daughter, Kathryn Regn and husband Steven, Wall, N.J.; a brother, James Hagan and wife Ida, Holmdel, N.J., and her 4 grandchildren, Erik and Charlie Regn, Wall and Brielle and Alyson Smith, Appomattox.
Visiting will be Friday, September 6, 2013, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, N.J. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM at the funeral home.
