It was my good fortune and pleasure to teach kindergarten with Ellen at Emma Havens Young School in the early 70s. She was such a dedicated teacher and a good friend. My sincere condolences to her family.

During my eight years as principal of Emma Havens Young School, I got to know Ellen very well. It didn't take long to see that she was a dedicated professional who cared very much for each of her students. She was always a class act, both in and out of the classroom, and I will always have fond memories of her.

Dear Anthony, Rory and family, Vance and family, and Gail,

I am so very sorry and so sad for your loss. May God pour his spirit of comfort, peace and stength into each of you, and hold your aching hearts in his loving hands.

I knew Ellen as the family archivist, the guardian of genealogic information about the side of the family that I share with Tony . The last time I saw Ellen was more than a decade ago (!), when I visited Ellen and Tony with my sons. Ellen was so gracious , and we had a tour of her wonderful gardens. Ellen answered my questions about our family history (while the boys enjoyed her pool), and provided me with precious fascinating information and documents that I now can share with my children and future grandchildren. After that, Ellen and I exchanged e-mails and Christmas cards. Ellen's love for her family was so evident in the beautiful photo cards she sent at Christmastime. I recently re-read her last e-mail to me, and am so sad that there will be no others. But, Ellen's legacy will live on in her family, in the many other lives that she touched, and in the dear memories that we all hold of her.

With love and empathy,

Sonya Naryshkin
