Marie Patricia Schaeffer, nee Degillio Plainfield age 70, passed away on Friday January 23, 2015 at her home in Plainfield, NJ surrounded by her family. Born in Kingston, PA, Mrs. Schaeffer had resided in Jersey City, Iselin, and Piscataway before moving to Plainfield in 1976.

Mrs. Schaeffer graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1961 and received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Connecticut in 1968.

Mrs. Schaeffer began her career as a social worker for the Middlesex County Board of Social Services and later worked as an accountant for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and later for Plainfield Country Club. Prior to her retirement in 2010, Mrs. Schaeffer worked for AT&T for 20 years. During her retirement she was an active volunteer with the AT&T Pioneers.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed bicycling, cooking, needle point, and cross stitch. While she and her husband loved traveling and dining throughout New Jersey and Maine, she would often be found sitting in a favorite sunny spot of her garden reading or doing crossword puzzles.

She is predeceased by her parents John and Ruth Degillio and her sister Charmayne Brodnax.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Randy Schaeffer, her beloved son Aaron Schaeffer and his partner Judy Dupre of Arlington VA. Marie is also survived by her brother Allyn Powell and his wife JoAnne as well as many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 28th 2015 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield, NJ at 11:00am. The interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Funeral services are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, Plainfield.
