Kathryn Maltby Obituary

Kathryn Ann Maltby

AGE: 72 • North Plainfield

Kathryn Ann Maltby was born on January 18, 1945 in Upland, California named after her grandmother Katherine Ceskavich. Kathryn was a joy from the moment she was born, to her mother Helen and husband Alex Yankaskas, just back from World War II, a fighter pilot over the Mediterranean.

Kay was a very special person who excelled at whatever she decided to do. As her father once said, "Kay could always do anything." She was Valedictorian of her high school class, completing a four year degree in three years, and was awarded a full academic scholarship to University of Pennsylvania. Later in life, working in the home-based businesses of Beeline Fashions and Lady Remington, Kay became the top sales person in the nation. She had well over 100 representatives working under her guidance and was always creating new opportunities for women.

She was very religious and active in the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Plainfield, NJ, where she not only touched many lives but also took on leadership roles including Church Treasurer, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, and becoming the unofficial assistant to the late pastor Joe Samuels. One of the highlights of Kay's achievements was completing a college level accreditation in "Training for Ministerial Services" where she subsequently taught classes and provided spiritual guidance to future ministers.

Kay was a giving person offering a bright spot to all who met her. She seemed to know everyone's birthday and never missed sending them a card. She loved the beach, the Sabbath, travels to Vermont, and the crazy antics of her twin grandsons.

She gave unconditionally to her church and everyone she knew. She was an angel on earth. She leaves behind Ronnie, her loving husband of 45 years, her mother Helen, her children and their spouses: Colleen (Paul), David (Tracy), Sharon, Glenn, and Brad (Elizabeth), and all the other members of her very large family: siblings, James (Bonnie), Kurt (Brenda), Jean (Shaun), Mary (Chris), Allan (Azra), Lucille (John); and her grandchildren Katrina, Rex, Zack, Alex, Aiden. She is predeceased by her son Edward Satterlee Jr., father Alexander Yankaskas, mother-and father-in-law, Iris & Leon Maltby, and brother Alexander Yankaskas Jr.

With Kay's profound spirit, Jesus always remained her best friend. May he welcome her home when they meet face to face and may we all have the hope to meet with her again.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 20th at Seventh Day Baptist Church, 510 Central Ave., Plainfield at 11AM. A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00AM in the church. Interment will follow the services at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood (www.fanwoodmemorial.com.).
