John E. Richards

Plainfield - John E. Richards, 76, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at RWJ University Hospital Somerset, Somerville. He was born in Elizabeth and had resided in Plainfield for 20 years and previously in Piscataway for many years.

John was an electrical engineer and consultant and was self-employed for many years. He was a member of the Rose of Sharon Community Church in Plainfield and served as a trustee. He had served as a volunteer with the Salvation Army and the Red Cross in Plainfield as well as a member of the Plainfield Lions Club. John had served as a mentor with the Plainfield High School F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Team for many years. He also had been active with several cancer support groups in the Plainfield area. In his earlier years he was active with the Boy Scouts. While in Piscataway he was a life member of the New Market Volunteer Fire Co., No. 1.

His family includes his wife, Janice Johnson-Richards, three children, James W. Richards (Wendy) of Piscataway, Susan J. Scott (Roger) of Ewing, and John C. Richards (Lisa) of Green Brook, and nine grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William Richards.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Rose of Sharon Community Church, 825 West 7th Street, Plainfield, on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 6pm, preceded by a gathering of family and friends at 5pm at the church.
