Bettie Quinn Obituary
AGE: 62 • Plainfield
Bettie L. Quinn, 62, departed this life Mon. May 18, 2015 in Overlook Hospital, Summit. Born in Norfolk, Va., she resided in Plainfield since 1979. She was a graduate of Newark's Arts High School, Rutgers College in 1989 and Rutgers Graduate School of Education in 2004. She was employed as a teacher at Hubbard Middle School and prior to that Jefferson Elementary School both in Plainfield. Bettie was a member of the National Sorority Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Epsilon Alpha Chapter, Somerset.
Surviving are her husband Oliver B. Quinn; 2 sons Jermal (Lizette) and Brian Quinn; a grandson Xavier Oliver Quinn; 6 sisters Cheryl and twins Myeshia and Nyeshia Johnson, Darlene (Kenny) and Shaketa Brown and Alicia Waterman (Ronald); mother in law Beryl Quinn; brother in law Mark Quinn (Simone).
Viewing Fri. 3-5 and 6-8pm in Calvary Baptist Church, 324 Monroe Ave., Plainfield. Funeral Sat. 9:30am in the church. Interment, Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Arrangements by Brown's Funeral Home. www.brownsfuneralhome.net. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to EF Tours/Hubbard School, EF Center Boston, Two Education Circle, Cambridge, MA 02141 (This will support students at Hubbard, where Bettie taught, to take summer educational trips to Europe) or Overlook Cancer Center, 99 Beauvoir Avenue, 5th Floor, Summit, NJ 07901 (This is the center that treated Bettie during her 25 year battle with cancer).

I remember when Betty Tina and I were all in high school what fun we had we join a sorority together we cut classes together and we were always together I still miss my dear friend I will never have another one like her no one can take her place in my life my tears still roll down my cheek for my dear friend how I miss her I miss our talks rest in peace .

Mrs. Quinn was the true essence of a Teacher. She saved lives through teaching, correcting, sharing, giving, and loving. Thank you Quinn family for sharing her and allowing her to share her gift. She had a great impact on many and will be missed, but never forgotten.
