Douglas H. Marvel, 80, of Hazlet, passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Douglas was a retired supervisor for M & T Chemical of Matawan. He was born in Matawan and he has remained a lifelong resident in the Matawan and Hazlet area. Douglas enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as the outdoors. He had a passion for baseball and during the 50's he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm team in Salisbury, NC.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and AnnaMae Marvel and a brother, Gordon Marvel. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Barbara Marvel; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Patricia Marvel and William and Elizabeth Marvel; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bill Korbach, and Joyce and Barry Howardson; a brother, Donald Marvel; 2 sisters, Valerie Panko and Shirley Glavis; 7 grandchildren, William Korbach, Audra Fowler, Will Marvel, Michael Howardson, Katie Marvel, Christopher Marvel, and Jennifer Marvel, and 2 great grandchildren, Jordan and Sydney Fowler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 5pm - 9pm at the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, 501 Highway 79, Morganville, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from 10am - 11am at the funeral home with a funeral service taking place at 11am.
