Herman Nitzsche Obituary

Herman M. Nitzsche

AGE: 91 • Plainfield

Herman M. Nitzsche, 91, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017 at Overlook Medical Center, Summit.

Born in Orange and raised in West Orange to the late Max and Anna Nitzsche, Herman proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and continued his military service in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged in 1953.

Herman went on to meet the love of his life Helen Nagengast whom he married in 1958. While working full time and raising his family, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering at Newark College of Engineering and continued a career as an Engineer.

Herman was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Plainfield where he was a lifelong volunteer and a member of the Parish Players Theater.

Mr. Nitzsche was a former Grand Knight for the Watchung Knights of Columbus Council #552. He was volunteer at Muhlenberg Hospital for many years, served as a Boy Scoutmaster for almost twenty years, and was a part of the St. Joseph's High School Father's Club.

A proud American, Herman was a U.S. history enthusiast and an avid reader. He was an accomplished photographer and held a love for music. He stayed current with technology even in the later years of his life. Most of all, Herman enjoyed the quality time he spent with his cherished family.

He was preceded in death by his dear siblings, Ronald Nitzsche, Eleanor Klittich, and Anna Marie Baudoux.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 years, Helen, his loving children, Mark and wife Karen, Paul and wife Kathleen, Peter, and Joseph, his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Genevieve, Elise, Reid, and Matthew, as well as his nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13th 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield.
