Adelaide H. Sickles

AGE: 81 • Little Silver

Adelaide Hoyt Sickles, born Dec. 9, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully in her home in Little Silver, Monday morning, Dec. 31, 2012, surrounded by members of her family.

The beloved wife and best friend of Robert W. Sickles for nearly 60 years, she is also survived by her four children, Ginny (Finn), Bob (Leslie), Jane (Michael) and Ted; and four grandchildren, Tori, Sasha, Tristan and Liam, all who deeply loved her.

She lost her parents, Thurber and Dorothy Hoyt, at four and ten years respectively and was raised by her beloved grandmother, Ella Evarts and her uncle, Roy Evarts. She graduated from Red Bank High School and completed studies at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in NYC working then as a secretary at Shadow Lawn Savings and Loan in Long Branch, NJ until her first child was born. Thereafter, she raised her family and was co-owner of Sickles Farm working alongside her husband for many years. Adelaide will be especially remembered for her kindness, generosity, and love of family.

She enjoyed being creative, reading, traveling, and square dancing and was an active member of the women's guild at St. John's Episcopal Church in Little Silver. She and her family are very grateful for the care and kindness of Manana Simmons during her last weeks.

Your respects and condolences are welcomed from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, with a funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 325 Little Silver Pt. Rd., Little Silver. In lieu of flowers, it is Adelaide's wish that any donations be made to St. John's Church or to the Salvation Army, 180 Newman Springs Rd., Red Bank, NJ 07701 or www.salvationarmyusa.org.
