Albert J. "Al" Ehlbeck, Jr.

AGE: 80 • Somerville

Albert J. "Al" Ehlbeck, Jr., 80, died January 7, 2013. Al was born in Teaneck, NJ, raised in Jersey City before moving to Somerville in 1958. He was employed as a technician at Union Carbide Inc. for over 40 years, retiring in 2002. He also worked at Post Hardware in Somerville for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. Albert enjoyed woodworking, reading, and volunteering his time at the Rolling Hills Girl Scouts in Branchburg. The greatest joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Al will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his wife, Eileen Ehlbeck who passed away in 2011. Surviving are his three daughters, Laurie A. Ehlbeck, Susan P. Ehlbeck and Lisa C. Ehlbeck and six grandchildren, Jennifer, Meghan, Matthew, Kristopher, Samantha, and Joshua and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am Friday at the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 No. Gaston Ave., Somerville. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Bridgewater. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 7-9pm Thursday at the funeral home. Donations can be made to the Somerville Rescue Squad, 21 Park Ave. Somerville, NJ 08876.
