AGE: 84 • formerly of Pluckemin
Barbara Pinney, 84, formerly of Pluckemin, NJ, born April 22, 1928, died on Sunday at the Bedminster home of her daughter Maureen O'Regan. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, NY to Louis A. and Mary Ellen (McNulty) VonTill. She is survived by five siblings: Brothers Paul, Louis Jr. and Stephen; and sisters Louella Stoltz and Elizabeth Warren. Barbara was preceded in death by a sister, Susan, and a brother, Peter.
Barbara is survived by her husband, John Victor Pinney, her six children: Richard (Sandra Adams), Sheila, Maureen (Jeffrey Mase), Michael, Stephen, Deirdre (Brian Andrews) and her stepson Christopher. Stepson Alan Pinney predeceased her. Barbara rejoiced in sharing stories with her eleven grandchildren: Rory Mase, Arlen Mase, Luke Mase, Timothy Bade Jr., Quentin Bade, Katarina O'Regan, Fiona Caretto, Aidan Andrews, Grady Andrews, Michael O'Regan and Alice O'Regan.
Known for her courage, her intrepid spirit and her extraordinary narrative gifts, Barbara's life was a series of adventures — each one providing fodder for an amusing tale. She traveled to all 50 states and every continent except Antarctica. She loved nature, bridge, her eclectic Irish/Hungarian roots, her faith, her idiosyncratic mix of a conservative worldview with progressive politics and any kind of calamity. She fenced for Smith College in the 1940s and graduated from Rutgers in her forties. Barbara's stories will live on. Stories about her are already legends.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Bernard's Church, 500 US 22, Bridgewater, NJ at 4:00 pm on Dec. 14th. The funeral will take place in Florida on Dec. 18th.
