AGE: 91 • Matawan

Caroline Helen Duncan, 91, of Matawan, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at home. She was born in Perth Amboy, where she lived before moving to Matawan 63 years ago. Caroline was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Caroline retired as a secretary with the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District after over 25 years of service. Caroline was very active in the community - over the years she served as a PTA president, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, cub scout den mother, girl scout assistant leader, and was a longtime member of Club 60 Seniors and St. Clement's Seniors. She loved to travel both in the U.S. and in Europe; write poetry; and was an avid collector of dolls, spoons, salt and pepper shakers and other knick knacks.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Ralph W. Duncan Sr.; her parents, John and Lena Pastrick (nee Knoesel); a grandson, Brian Maltais; four brothers, Martin and his wife Bette, John, Eugene and Walter Pastrick; and a nephew Martin Pastrick Jr. Surviving Caroline are her three children, Nancy Maltais of Pottsville, PA, Ralph Jr. of Frackville, PA and Richard and his wife Alice of Matawan; three grandchildren, Daniel Maltais and his wife Ashley, Rebecca Mooney and her husband Justin, and Thomas Duncan; and four great-granddaughters, Emily, Rachel, Hayley and Tara. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Janet Pastrick of Little Egg Harbor; her cousins, Catherine Lucka and Lee Steiger, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at the Bedle Funeral Home, 212 Main St., Matawan. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 60 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735. Interment to follow at the Old Tennent Cemetery in Tennent.
