Catherine Geis-Hansen, 58, of Lakewood passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Born in Perth Amboy, Cathy grew up in Woodbridge and became a resident of Ocean County for the remainder of her years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell. J. Hansen in 2002 and by her mother, Lucille Geis in 2009. Surviving are her fianc?, Les Luongo of Ocean Township; her father, Willam Geis of Point Pleasant; her sister, Lucille A. Townsend and husband Howard, also of Pt. Pleasant; her niece, Stephanie Wexler and nephew, William Wexler, who are both proudly serving our country in the U.S. Navy.

Cathy is a 1976 graduate of Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, and received her Masters Degree in 1978 at St. John's University, New York. She began her career at St. Peter's Medical Center in New Brunswick as a staff pharmacist. Cathy also became an instructor in Clinical Pharmacy at Rutgers University School of Pharmacy. In 1979, Cathy became Director of Pharmaceutical Services at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. She spent 19 years at Kimball before leaving to work at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, as Assistant Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services. She then pursued a Doctorate of Pharmacy at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, while moving to Jersey Shore University Medical Center as Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, ultimately becoming acting Director of Pharmacy. There, she spent the remainder of her career until becoming ill. Cathy served a term as president of the New Jersey Health System Pharmacists and received Pharmacist of the Year Award. She served 5 years as a delegate in the American Society of Healthcare Pharmacists. She devoted her life's work to the recognition and advancement of hospital pharmacy, and of both pharmacists and technicians. She implemented many new and exciting programs within the hospital systems. She loved her employees as she believed in "her people," always crediting them for their accomplishments. Cathy's other passion in life was to raise and show Doberman Pinchers, along with ballroom dancing. Cathy will be remembered as a dear friend, a pioneer in her profession, mentor of many along with the love of family.

Visiting will be held at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Martha's Church, Pt.
