Cecelia "Ceil" Vloyanetes, 97, of Long Branch, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, after a short illness, at the Barnabas Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Long Branch. She was born December 28, 1915 in New York City. She was a lifelong resident of Long Branch, NJ; where she graduate high school and earned a varsity letter in field hockey. Cecelia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and generous person, - known for her Greek pastries- Kourabiedes and Baklava. Examples of her generosity included sneaking food as a teenager, from her Uncle's restaurant on the Long Branch boardwalk during the great depression, to give to the homeless including future TV comedian Red Skelton. Her generosity extended to buying and giving warm clothing to students at Gregory Elementary School, Long Branch, where she was employed as a teacher's aide. Anybody who knew Cecelia was touched by her warmth and giving; sacrificing her own comfort for someone else, including complete strangers. She was affectionately called Mrs. Ceil by her past, now grown, students. She was a life time member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, Ocean NJ. She loved her Church and enjoyed baking her Greek specialties to help with fundraising and to support St George. She was 50-year plus member of The Philoptochos Society, ladies auxiliary of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church. She was honored by St. George and the Philoptoschos Society in 1995 as "Mother of the Year." Her work career spanned almost 80 years, from working as a teenager in family businesses to a secretary at Progressive Insurance, when she met her beloved husband of 62 years, to a waitress in the Roxy Restaurant and finally as a teacher's aide in the Long Branch School system. She loved working with and helping young children so much, when she reached retirement age, she continued working as an unpaid volunteer teacher's aide until her late 70s.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Nicholas Vloyanetes; her parents, Helen Apostolacus and John Chrisicos, her brother, Nicholas Chrisicos; and her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and George Foltis. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter and Kathleen Vloyanetes, West Long Branch and Nicholas Vloyanetes, Brick Township; granddaughter Leslie and her husband Christopher Babiak, Jarrettsville, MD; grandson, Andrew and his wife Angela Vloyanetes, Quakertown, PA; her great grandsons, Sean and Jacob Babiak and Jackson and Colton Vloyanetes; four sisters-in-law, Esther Chrisicos and Carolyn Brown, West Long Branch, Jean Klothekis and Fanny Cohen of Pensacola, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews from the Foltis and Vloyanetes' families.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 5th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Funeral services, Wednesday, March 6th, 11 am at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue, Ocean, NJ. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
