Charles De Laura, 85, of Wayside, a devoted husband and most beloved father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born and raised in Jamesburg, Charles moved to Elizabeth in 1968 before retiring to Wayside in 1997. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army having attained the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for over 30 years and worked in construction and as a truck driver for Loizeaux Building Supply in Elizabeth before retiring 20 years ago. He was a member of the American Legion Post #328 in Clark.
Charles was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Rose Marie Fullone De Laura; and his son-in-law, Thomas McGirl. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Cathy De Laura of Wayside; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Kevin O'Gorman of Wayside; a son, Vincent De Laura of Wayside; a daughter, Antoinette McGirl of Cranford; a sister, Domenica Ferrara of Sayreville; and four grandchildren, Nicole and Robert O'Gorman, Vincent and Anthony De Laura. He is also survived by many relatives and friends who love him and will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10 at St. Anselm's Church, Wayside. Entombment to follow at Woodbine Mausoleum and Cemetery, Oceanport.
