AGE: 84 • Bound Brook
Charles J. Mielnicki, 84, died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 20, 2013 with his family by his side. Son of the late Antoni and Stefania Mielnicki, he was born and remained a lifelong resident of Bound Brook. After graduating from Bound Brook High School in 1946, Charles served his country in the US Navy from 1946-1948 aboard the Battleship USS Wisconsin. He then joined the Bound Brook Police Department where he served the borough for over 30 years, retiring as Liutenant. After his dedicated service to the town he loved, he then became the Chief of Police in Califon for 10 years. Charles was a communicant of St. Mary's of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook, a member of NJ State Association of the Chiefs of Police, PBA of NJ, American Legion of Bound Brook, VFW Manville Post 2290, and the Manville Rod and Gun Club. Charles enjoyed being with his family and dear friends attending picnics, weddings and card games and he enjoyed telling stories about life as it was in old Bound Brook. But there was nothing he loved more than to play checkers and go fishing with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all. Charles was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and Edmund, sisters, Chelsa Domanski and Mary Petrock. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sophie (Bohay) Mielnicki, sons, Anthony and wife Ginny of Howell, Michael of Bound Brook; cherished grandchildren, Alexandra, Taylor, and Anthony; sisters, Helen Chudy of Allentown, NJ, Dorothy Peltack of Somerville, Irene Romano of South Bound Brook as well as many nieces and nephews, all of who will greatly miss Uncle Charlie.
