Clair L. Long Obituary
Clair L. Long

AGE: 75 • Somerville

Clair L. Long, 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2012 with his wife by his side. He was born on November 9, 1936 in Shamokin, PA to his dear parents Clifford and Daisy Erdman Long. Clair graduated from Coal Township High School. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. Clair married Mary Lastoskie on May 29, 1965, and they recently celebrated their 47th anniversary. Clair relocated to New Jersey in 1960. He retired from Revlon after 37 years. After years of stocking trout on a volunteer basis, Clair worked part-time for the past few years for the N.J. State Fish & Wildlife Commission. Clair was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being outdoors. He liked to go walking either to the mall or out at Round Valley, where everyone knew him as "Clarence". He enjoyed going to the Somerset Patriot games and eating out, especially at Shady Maple and Cracker Barrel. Clair loved spending time with his family, especially his best buddy, his grandson Christopher. He was an easy going guy and everyone who crossed paths with him knew how special of a person he was. Clair always made everyone laugh and he kept his sense of humor throughout his 2 month illness. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a dear brother and brother-in-law, a wonderful grandfather, and was kind, caring, generous, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Clair will be missed by his beloved wife, Mary of 47 years; his loving children, Kathleen (Michael) Segerstrom of Bridgewater, Suzanne (Donald) Ponatoski of Shamokin, PA, Robert Long of Middlesex; two dear sisters, Marie Lahr of Pennsylvania and Sandra (John) Avellino of Pennsylvania; one wonderful grandson, Christopher Long; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Patricia Weaver.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ 08869 (908-725-1887).
