Dolores Hammond Obituary
AGE: 87 • Pasadena, CA
Dolores Odessa Hammond, 87, of Pasadena, CA died peacefully at home on January 10, 2017. Dolores was born December 16, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. Dolores earned a degree in dietetics from Hampton Institute (University) in Virginia where she graduated as valedictorian in 1947.
After graduation, Dolores worked at the Lyons VA Hospital where she met Luther W. Hammond. They married July 2, 1955 and became the parents to two sets of twins, Debra and Craig, followed by Linda and Leslie. Dolores also worked for Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield for more than 30 years until her retirement.
Dolores and Luther retired in Spring, Texas where they became active members of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Houston. Her passions included the theatre, politics, crossword puzzles, reading and cross-country travel.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents Nathaniel and Clara Minor, husband Luther, son-in-law Reginald Christmas, and sister-in-law Tommie Minor. She is survived by her brother Ira Minor; daughter Debra Hammond; son Craig Hammond; daughter Linda (Bruce) Morgan; daughter Leslie Christmas; daughter-of-the-heart Saundra Gilliard Davis; grandchildren Shana Hammond, William and Eric Morgan, Nia, Aliyah, and Reginald Christmas, Nathaniel, Nia, and Noni Davis; and great-grandchildren Sydney Hammond and Saige Davis.
A memorial service will be held at Shady Rest at the Scotch Hills Country Club, 820 Jerusalem Road, Scotch Plains, New Jersey on February 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of a burial, Dolores' ashes and the ashes of her husband Luther will be sprinkled together off her beloved New Jersey coastline.

Mommy, thank you so very much for allowing me to be a part of your family. Your love, support and sage advice has guided me through the years. Although we will all miss you, I am comforted in knowing that your gentle spirit will be ever present.
