Donald F. Ackerman

AGE: 69 • Barnegat

Donald F. Ackerman, 69, of Barnegat, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, after a short but valiant battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Jersey City to parents Arthur E. and Frances (Radwanski) Ackerman, he graduated from Saint Paul's Grammar School and Saint Mary's High School. He attended Jersey City State College and served his country in the Army National Guard. Don's career in fashion began humbly at his Father's haberdashery, but culminated with great success as an executive at Daffy's. His dedication to his professional pursuits earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and many accolades during his long and productive tenure. As a retiree, Don volunteered at St. Francis Church in Beach Haven. He raised his Family in Clifton, and eventually moved to his dream house in Montclair using his innate talent and creativity to re-furbish the small cottage and would often be seen tending to his beautiful flower garden. He was an exemplary father, husband, brother, cousin, friend and brother-in-law. He was an adventurous traveler. He was a strong man without boast, a generous man without wanting recognition, a man who simply loved a lot, worked hard and enjoyed the great times he created with his family. He was an avid skier and loved the ocean.

He is predeceased by his parents, aunts and uncles. He lost two special cousins, Henry Wawroski and James Manziano. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith (Reiner) Ackerman; his adoring sons, Jason F. Ackerman and David R. Ackerman; his beloved sister, Eileen Ackerman; and his brother-in-law, Stuart Reiner.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W Bay Ave. (www.BarnegatFH.com). In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital are warmly appreciated.
