Donald R. Schwendeman, of Edison, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Robert Wood Johnson Univ. Hosp. in New Brunswick. He was 81. Born in Milltown, he lived in Edison most of his life.
He worked for PSE&G for 39 years, retiring as chief lineman. Mr. Schwendeman served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War. After the war, he was a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League, during the 1950's. He was a communicant of Guardian Angels RC Church in Edison. He's predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor (d. 1982), his son Jeffrey (d. 2001), and his brother George (d. 2011).
Surviving is his wife Noel Poignonnec Schwendeman; his daughters Donna, and her husband Ed Castleton of Edison; and Tama, and her husband James Waldron of Edison; his step-son Guy Poignonnec, and his wife Joyce, of Wilmington, NC; his step-daughter Penny Vitanza of Edison; his sister Dorothy Anderson of Monroe; 12 grandchildren - Tim, Amanda, Eddie, Don, Tom, Lindsey, Taylor, James, Guy, Garrett, Spencer and Jackie; and 8 great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday, 5:00 - 8:00 pm, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St-at Riva Ave., Milltown. A Mass will be held, Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at a time to be announced, at Guardian Angesl RC Church, Edison. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
