Eileen A. Spitale, 80, was welcomed into God's arms on Friday, May 17 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Born in Jersey City to the late Joseph and Anne Sandaal, Eileen attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Snyder High School, and St. Peter's College. Falling in love with Gaetano (Guy) Spitale (deceased 1988) they created a life and family in Jersey City having eight children, moving to Brick Township in 1971.
Predeceased by her daughter Gina Roland in 1987 and her son Louis Spitale in 2011, and her siblings Joseph, Robert and Richard Sandaal, she leaves behind a lineage of love. Daughters Susan Resch of Brick, Grace Lewis and her husband Bob of Sebring FL., Jacqueline Robertazzi and husband James of Toms River. Sons Anthony Spitale of Brick, Guy Spitale and his wife Amy of Brick, Joseph and his wife Kristin of Ocean. Daughter-in-Law Barbra Border Spitale of Brick. Grandchildren Lisa Oliveri and husband Joseph of Brick, Timothy Kran of Lakewood, Melissa Caivano and husband Joe of Brick, Lillian Van Arsdale and husband Justin of Endwell NY, Jennifer Brown and husband Jonathan of Ruskin, FL, Sgt. US Army Jason Robertazzi of Ft. Hood, TX, Vincent Spitale of Brick, Cierra and Coral Spitale of Brick, Zachary, Chace and Mia Spitale of Ocean. Great grandchildren Elissa Oliveri of Brick, Paige, Jacob and Matthew Van Arsdale of Endwell NY. She is also survived by her loving brother, Donald Sandaal and his wife Anne of Niceville, FL. as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Eileen had a passion for politics and was a Democratic Committeewoman in Jersey City as well as in Brick. She was a member of the Brick Democratic Club where she served as a Trustee for many years. She loved Atlantic City and the occasional junkets to Las Vegas to play the ponies with her brother Joe. In addition to her talents as a homemaker and master cook, Eileen was employed as a secretary for Family Planning in Toms River and Waterside Gardens Realty in Brick. She was a member of Teamster D.R.I.V.E. auxiliary of Local 760, and of the United Cerebral Palsy Organization.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday May 21 at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick NJ 08723. A Funeral Mass will take place Wednesday at 9:30 am at Visitation Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at Ocean County Memorial Park.
