Elva N. DeBartolis Monachese, 90, of Red Bank, formerly of Toms River and Long Branch, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor in Red Bank. Elva was the daughter of Dennis and Lola Gonzalez Tirado. Elva was predeceased by her brothers, Zeke and David; her sister, Lola; her first husband, Samuel DeBartolis in 1970 and her second husband, Peter Monachese in 1996. Elva was active in her children's school PTA activities while they were growing up and spent most of every summer vacation on the beach in Long Branch. Elva was happiest cooking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren, friends and extended family. Always with a smile, and never without lipstick Elva shared her love of life and lived it to the fullest.
She is survived by her children, Carol Stamaty of New York City, Linda Mass and her husband Gregory of Middletown, Richard DeBartolis and his wife Karen of Howell, and Allison DeBartolis of Long Branch; and, a brother, Ruben Tirado and wife Donna of Toms River; sisters, Priscilla Smith of Oakhurst and Lois Polheumus of Point Pleasant and her three beautiful grandchildren, Andrew and Erick DeBartolis and Samantha Mass, whom she loved with all her heart.
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, February 4th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank. A brief service will be held at 3:45pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Associated Humane Society in Tinton Falls, NJ or Clean Ocean Action Highlands, NJ.
