Frederick Stober passed away suddenly on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at home in the arms of his daughter Karen. He was 89. He was born in Bayonne, NJ on January 16, 1924, a son to the late Bertha and Louis Stober, where he was raised. He later moved to Elizabeth before moving to Warren in 1966. Fred graduated Bayonne High School in June of 1940. He attended Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) before entering the Army ASTP Program. He was called into service in 1943. He was discharged in February of 1946 and immediately returned to NCE to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in September of 1946. Upon graduation he was employed by Standard Oil, Esso, (now ExxonMobiil). He received a Masters in Management Engineering in June of 1956 and worked for 36 year before retiring in 1985. He married Dorothy nee:Efremsky of Elizabeth, NJ on October 9, 1954. He was the last surviving founding member of the NCE/NJIT Alumni Association and remained active in it his entire life. He was also active in the Sigma Pi Fraternity, the American Legion in Warren, the Warren Elks, and the VFW Post 2252 in Manville. He was a very active member of the Advent Lutheran Church in Elizabeth and Warren. He was a member of Tall Cedar Forest #6, where he was a past Grand Master, and a member of the Freemasons at Lafayette Lodge No. 27 in Rahway. He was also active in The Construction User Round Table of NJ, serving a term as its chairperson and helping to get it affiliated with the Business Roundtable of NJ. He continued to be active with the group after retirement, Frederick also earned a Professional Engineers Licence #24GE0150770. He enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his 2 daughters, Karen Elizabeth Stober, and Nancy Stober-McCarthy and her husband Mike. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, 23 years ago. He had many cousins, nieces, a great nephew and a great niece.
Services will be Friday 9:00 AM from the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Service at Advent Lutheran Church, 128 Stirling Rd., Warren, NJ. Entombment will follow at Cloverleaf Mausoleum in Woodbridge, NJ. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Funeral Home.
